Occupational Therapy


Queen's Rehabilitation Services provides Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Speech Therapy and Audiology. All services are initiated by a physician's order and are available 7 days a week for inpatients.

Evaluation and treatment include, but are not limited to:

  • Speech, language, and voice services
  • Cognitive - communication services
  • Aphasia
  • Swallowing services
  • Communication with tracheostomy
  • Transfer/gait training
  • Wheelchair mobility training
  • Balance training
  • Therapeutic exercises
  • Manual Therapy
  • Physical agents and mechanical modalities
  • Activities of daily living
  • Splint fabrication
  • Equipment recommendations
  • Patient/family/caregiver education

Rehabilitation Services treats patients in the Intensive Care Units (ICU), Telemetry, the Medical/Surgical floors, Queen's Skilled Nursing Facility, the Outpatient Clinic (Kekela, ground floor) and the Women's Health Center.

Outpatient Rehabilitation Services provides Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Speech Language Pathology therapy to reduce pain and improve patient mobility and function. The clinical specialty trained team utilizes a patient-centric methodology that prioritizes patient access to therapists and provides one-on-one care, typically by the same provider, throughout the course of a patient's treatment.

The Outpatient Rehabilitation Services team works closely with physicians and partners within The Queen's Medical Center and The Queen's Health Care Centers to evaluate patient needs and develpop a personalized plan for each individual. Physical, occupational and speech therapists strive to improve patient outcomes by seeking out and incorporating the best evidence-based practices into patient care plans.

Therapists teach patients how to prevent or manage conditions to achieve long-term health benefits, and in many cases, avoid expensive surgery and reduce or eliminate the need for long-term use of prescription medications and their side effects. 

Physical Therapy services include:

  • Post-operative rehabilitation
  • Functional mobility training
  • Neurological rehabilitation
  • Manual therapy
  • Ergonomics and postural training
  • Sports physical therapy
  • Balance and fall prevention
  • Gait re-education
  • Lymphedema therapy
  • Work hardening

Occupational Therapy services include:

  • Post-operative upper extremity rehabilitation
  • Neurological rehabilitation
  • Manual therapy
  • Ergonomics and postural training
  • Joint protection techniques
  • Energy conservation techniques
  • Split fabrication and training

Speech Language Pathology therapy services include:

  • Swallowing
  • Speech
  • Voice
  • Language and cognition
  • Modified barium swallow
  • Augmentative and assistive communcation
  • Lyphedema therapy for head and neck cancer survivors
