Psychiatric Treatment

Kekela and Kekela Crisis offers the highest quality psychiatric care for patients requiring hospitalization. Kekela Crisis is a closed 10-bed unit which provides psychiatric intensive care. The program is designed to meet the needs of patients requiring close observation, high structure, low stimulation and intensive interdisciplinary treatment. Kekela is a closed 22- bed unit which provides acute psychiatric care. The program is designed to create a balance of personal time and structured activities in support of continuing growth and independence. The treatment program includes:

  • Psychiatric evaluation and individualized treatment planning
  • Medication Management
  • Individual Psychotherapy
  • Group Therapy
  • Occupational Therapy
  • Art Therapy
  • Milieu Therapy
  • Educational Classes

Multidisciplinary Treatment Team
The treatment team is dedicated to treating the patient, family and each other with dignity and respect, recognizing the value of each person's uniqueness as contributing to the healing process.  Individualized assessment and treatment is provided by a multidisciplinary team including:

  • Psychiatrists
  • Consulting Physicians
  • Psychologists
  • Clinical Social Workers
  • Psychiatric Clinical Nurse Specialists
  • Registered Professional Nurses
  • Mental Health Pharmacist
  • Psychiatric Assistants
  • Occupational Therapists
  • Art Therapists
  • Recreational Therapists
  • Dietician

Location, Admission and Insurance
The Kekela and Kekela Crisis Intensive Psychiatric Treatment Units are located on the 3rd level of the Kekela Building.

People seeking admission may contact their private physician or The Queen's Medical Center Emergency Department at 808.547.4311.

Services are covered by most medical insurance plans including The Queen's Health Care Plan, HMSA, Aetna, Travelers, and all QUEST plans.
