Robotic-Assisted Surgery

Minimally Invasive SurgeryThe Queens Medical Center is leading the way in Hawaii for Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS), using the da Vinci® Robot.  The Queen’s Medical Center was the first to bring the robotic-assisted surgery to Hawaii in February 2007. Our team of specialty trained physicians and surgical staff have performed more than 770 cases including Urological (e.g., prostate surgery), gynecologic (e.g., hysterectomy/uterus surgery) and General surgery (e.g., gastric bypass surgery).

The next generation of surgery is enabled by the da Vinci® Surgical System from Intuitive Surgical Incorporated incorporating the latest advancements in robotics and computer technology. This is the only operative surgical robot that has been deemed safe and effective by the United States Food and Drug Administration for actually performing surgery

Although the Minimally Invasive Robotic Surgery Program is on the forefront of medical technology, the human touch is the most important focus of patient care at Queen’s. The specialized team of expert’s work together to provide total care that is individualized to the patients needs. Collaboration is the name of the game and partnering with QMC Cancer Center, Comprehensive Weight Management Center and Women’s Health allow us to provide excellent total care to our patients.

By integrating robotic technology with the surgeon's skill, the robot enables surgeons to perform precise minimally invasive (MIS) surgery in a manner never before experienced to enhance healing and promote well-being.

Minimally Invasive Surgery reduces trauma to the patient by allowing surgeries to be performed through small ports rather than large incisions, resulting in shorter recovery times, fewer complications and reduced hospitalization costs.

Patient benefits may include:

  • Reduced pain and trauma to the body
  • Less blood loss and need for transfusions
  • Less post-operative pain and discomfort
  • Less risk of infection
  • Shorter hospital stay
  • Faster recovery and return to work
  • Less scarring and improved comesis

Additional Hawaii Patients benefits:

  • No transport for patient to the mainland to have surgery
  • No transport for the family to be with/visit patient on the mainland
  • Less out of state insurance costs
  • Accessibility to your own/local Physicians and local care givers that understand Hawaiian culture
