Stroke

  • A pilot brain MRI perfusion study to help identify which acute ischemic stroke patients, who are ineligible for treatment with an IV clot-busting medication or who have failed treatment with IV medication, are most likely to benefit from rescue intra-arterial clot removal therapy.
  • A randomized, double-blind study comparing a clopidogrel/aspirin combination verses an aspirin alone regimen in preventing major ischemic vascular events (ischemic stroke, heart attach, and ischemic vascular death) in patients with transient ischemic attach (TIA) or minor stroke – Opening in Summer/Fall 2010
  • A database through the Get With The Guidelines Stroke Program  and American Heart Association to collect clinical data of patients with acute stroke to maintain JCAHO Stroke Center certification and support quality improvement in the treatment of acute stroke at The Queen’s Medical Center.  

Epilepsy

  • A conversion to monotherapy medication study for patients with epilepsy.
  • A long-term follow-up study for patients with epilepsy continuing on the monotherapy medication.

Brain and Spinal-Cord Injury

  • A study to evaluate the functional outcomes of patients with traumatic brain injury.
  • A study to evaluate the effects of methamphetamine use on cerebral metabolism and blood flow after traumatic brain injury.

Other Studies

  • A study of an intranasal cooling device for neurologically ill patients (i.e., ICH, SAH, ischemic stroke, TBI, post-cardiac arrest) in the Neurointensive Care Unit.
