About 10 million Americans are estimated to have osteoporosis, the thinning of bone tissue and loss of bone density over time. Nearly 34 million Americans are at risk for developing this disease where bones become weak and can break more easily.
Literally meaning “porous bone”, osteoporosis affects both women and men, and if not treated can result in broken or fractured bones most commonly in the hip, spine or wrist. In serious cases, even bending down or sneezing can cause a bone to break. While osteoporosis can also lead to other health problems, you’re never too young or too old to improve the health of your bones.
Join The Queen’s Medical Center’s Kevin Christensen, M.D.,Orthopedic Surgeon at the Queen’s Strong Bones Osteoporosis Clinic, as he talks about osteoporosis and shares how you can prevent, detect, and treat this most common bone disease.
