Paul T. Morris, MD, FACS, FCCP
Thoracic and General Surgeon
Dr. Morris is a thoracic and general surgeon who specializes in cancer care. In 2010 he was named the outstanding Community Based Physician of the Year at The Queen’s Medical Center. Dr. Morris has done a lot to advance cancer care in Hawaii. Since 2001, he has been the chair of the Cancer Committee, which oversees the quality of cancer care provided at Queen’s. The committee examines cases and trends, and benchmarks results against national standards. The group helps maintain Queen’s accreditation—which is at the coveted commendation level—with the American College of Surgeons’ Commission on Cancer. Providing oversight for cancer programs, the Commission on Cancer upholds rigorous standards with regard to prevention, early detection and treatment. Serving from 2002 to 2008 with the Commission on Cancer on an oversight committee in charge of developing standards, Dr. Morris was able to bring inside information back to help make Queen’s one of the best cancer centers. Dr. Morris is also chair of the Tumor Board, in which multidisciplinary teams study cancer cases anonymously to determine the best treatment options for patients.
